DILLON DAM BREWERY TO HOLD MATT LUHR MEMORIAL DEDICATION MAY 31, AT NOON
The Dillon Dam Brewery will dedicate the bronze sculpture commissioned in honor of Matt Luhr, former brewmaster, on May 31, 2009 at Noon. This memorial gathering will celebrate Luhr’s life with the sharing of stories and the unveiling of the bronze bust. A light food buffet follows the ceremony and the bar will be open on a cash basis. The Dam Brewery restaurant will open for regular business at 2 p.m.
Matt Luhr, beloved brewmaster and friend, died of complications from a brain aneurism on October 16, 2008. He was only 46 years old. He served as Dam Brewmaster from 2001-2008. Luhr had a passion for brewing quality beers. “I love brewing because it combines a variety of disciplines. Every day is an exciting challenge,” Luhr said. He won many medals for the Brewery including a 2008 Great American Beer Festival Gold Medal for Sweet George’s Brown Ale and a Silver at the 2008 World Beer Cup for the same beer.
“He was a friend and a brother and a spiritual role model. He was a giant of a man, physically, intellectually and socially who touched the lives of everyone he met. It seemed only appropriate that in death he is still making people’s lives better by donating nearly every organ of his body for transplants, except, as his father pointed out, his heart, which was simply too big for anyone else,” Cory Forster, Dam Brewmaster.

Matt Luhr Bronze
We have commissioned Paula Blincoe Collins, sister of owner George Blincoe, to make a bronze sculpture of Matt and his beloved dog Syndy Lu.
Contributions are now being accepted for this project.

We anticipate a memorial dedication in early June 2009 and will contact you to let you know the date and time.
The owners of the Dam Brewery will fund no less than half of the bronze scuplture. If funds donated are more than needed, all excess monies will go to: The Brain Aneurysm Foundation in memory of Matt Luhr.
