Pumpkin Beer is going in the brew kettle…

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Hello Pumpkin heads!  We are brewing our traditional batch of pumpkin beer today!  Cory is cranking up another batch of Great Pumpkin Ale (clever name no?) It is a light amber ale with a touch of Victory & Cara Brown malts giving almost a hint of graham  cracker like crust flavors.  There are four roasted pumpkins, see photo of Cory prepping pumpkins,

Dam Wins Silver Medal at Great American Beer Festival

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Dam Brewing Staff At GABF Medal CeremonyMcLuhr’s Irish Stout won a silver medal in the Classic Irish-Style Stout category at the GABF held on Sat. Sept. 18, 2010.

The Dam had all but given up its hopes for a medal until category 71 out of 79  was announced.  After all,  519 breweries submitted 3,601 beers for judging.  It is really difficult to win a medal.   The sad faces of the brewmasters who went away empty handed was heart wrenching.

Tickets for the Great American Beer Festival had sold out a record 5 weeks prior to the 3 day festival.  More than 460 breweries brought over 2,000 beers for tasting.  237 medals were awarded.  40 medals were awarded to 22 Colorado breweries.

Dam wins 2010 World Beer Cup Gold

Brewmaster Cory Forster Receives the Gold Award At the 2010 World Beer Cup in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL – The Dillon Dam Brewery is ecstatic over its Gold Medal at the World Beer Cup for its McLuhr’s Irish Stout which won in the Classic Irish-Style Dry Stout Category beating out 22 entries from  all over the world.

The Dam Brewery was the only Summit County brewery to win a medal.  Colorado breweries won 11 medals.  This is the third medal the Dam Brewery has won at the World Beer Cup.  The Sweet George’s Brown Ale won a Gold in 2002 and a Silver in 2008.

The eighth bi-annual competition announced awards to brewers from 19 countries ranging from Australia and Italy to Iceland and Japan.

This year, 642 breweries from 44 countries and 47 U.S. states vied for awards with 3,330 beers entered in 90 beer style categories.

The 2010 World Beer Cup eclipsed the record of the Brewers Association’s own Great American Beer Festival (GABF) to become the largest commercial competition ever. There were 3,308 entries judged in the 2009 GABF, compared to the 2010 World Beer Cup’s 3,330 entries judged.
